University of Florence

  • On the 17th December 2007, ULS signed an exclusive licence for the development and commercialisation of modulators of the carbonic anhydrases (CAs) originating from the research group of Professor Andrea Scozzafava and Dr Claudiu Supuran.
  • The Scozzafava/Supuran research group has access to all the catalytically active human CAs together with an extensive library of compounds targeted directly towards this family of enzymes.
  • Many of the CA isozymes have been implicated in important biological processes and have been acknowledged as valid targets in areas such as obesity, oncology and glaucoma.
  • The identification of specific, high affinity, small molecule inhibitors in a defined therapeutic field is the focus of this collaboration. Project development has been initiated and a patent application already filed.
